York Street Kitchen first rolled up its garage door in April of 1996. Known for its funky decor and fun and casual ambiance, the Kitchen and its take-out window have become a favourite for visitors and locals alike. Prior to moving up the block and expanding to include seating, York Street was already famous for double-fisted, two-napkin sandwiches. York Street Kitchen has garnered rave reviews from the Toronto Star, Canadian Living and The Atlantic Quarterly. The take-out window is now just to the side of the restaurant and features the same unique and delicious sandwiches and fabulous side salads.
After running York Street Sandwiches as a take-out window for eight years, Susie Palach decided it was time to expand. Susie has been in the restaurant business for many years, both in the kitchen and in the front of the house. Her background includes dining room and wine service in Canada and the US. Susie's love for home cooking diners, BBQ pits and Mom and Pop kitchens serve as her inspiration for York Street Kitchen. York Street Kitchen has become a destination for many visitors and locals, offering honest cooking and spirited service. Susie strives to include fresh, local, regionally-grown produce on the menu wherever possible. Breakfast at YSK is legendary - french toast with our own apple compote, breakfast burrito, and our famed Canadiana. Build your own sandwiches and five creative daily specials are on the menu for lunch, either in the restaurant or take out for a picnic in the park. Dinner features a number of specialties, including meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes, Spanish Seafood Stew and BBQ chicken and ribs. Daily specials are also available for dinner, always including a vegetarian special. The Kitchen offers a small but selective wine list, featuring wine that complements the menu. A number of micro-brewed and imported beers are also available. We are excited to be entering into our 25th year at our new location on Erie Street. Our reputation speaks for itself!
