Before beginning therapy, many people have tried to make changes on their own. For some, lasting change can be difficult to accomplish, and they may need the assistance of a professional. Choosing a psychologist involves consideration of their qualifications and expertise, but it is very important for you to feel comfortable and at ease with the therapist you chose. In therapy, collaboration is important. Clients contribute their expertise about themselves and their lives, and I bring the psychological knowledge. Together, we will work to create the changes that you want and need in your life.
Areas of practice include, but are not limited to: Couples Therapy, Relationship Issues, Depression, Anxiety, Life Transition. I use different treatment approaches and techniques, depending on client needs and informed by research literature, in order to ensure the work we are doing will help create the needed changes.
Cognitive-behaviour therapy has been shown to be very effective for depression, anxiety, and many other concerns. When working with couples, I use a treatment called Emotion-Focused Therapy, which the research shows is the most effective treatment to help distressed couples improve their relationship.
