Real Estate
Mona Jodoin has been practising in the area of Real Estate law since she began her practise in 1998.
Buying a home is one of the biggest investments a person will ever make in their lives and should not be regarded lightly. It is strongly recommended that you retain your lawyer early in the process. Some of the many things that need to be considered early on in the purchase and sale process (before the offer is signed) are:
1. Is GST applicable?
2. What will it cost me to close this transaction?
3. If I am buying and selling, how soon will I get my house sale proceeds?
4. What do I need to look into before closing?
1. House insurance?
2. Utility accounts?
3. Etc, etc...?
Take the stress out of this important transaction by retaining legal services early on so you have someone to turn to with your questions.
We are here to help make this experience as enjoyable as it can be.
Subdivisions
Is it time to subdivide your land, but don't know where to start?
We provide subdivision guidance for small and large subdivisions, from beginning to sale, or only as required from time to time on an as-needed basis.
Mona Jodoin has assisted in city subdivisions and rural subdivisions and would be happy to meet with you to discuss your project.
No subdivision is too small, we enjoy them all!
Corporate / Business Law
Are you expanding your business and wanting to know
1. What is involved in getting incorporated?
2. Why you should consider getting incorporated?
3. How to choose a business name?
Call our office to get guidance and advice on all of these issues and more. If the questions are out of the legal realm, we will help you decide on which professionals to consult and what you need to be asking.
Estate Planning
Some people believe that only the rich and elderly need to plan for disability and death. This could not be further from the truth, and here are some reasons why young people have complex planning to consider:
• They often have dependent children that need guardians
• The will likely be blessed with an inheritance which requires pre-planning
• Disability at a young age, without a power of attorney, can cost tens of thousands of dollars
The complexities of estate planning for the young and middle-aged are real and substantial.
However, the reality is, the older we get the more wealth we accrue and often the more spouses we have had or will have had by the time we die. Blended families, inheritances, pre nuptial agreements are all factors to be considered for more mature estate plans. A cookie cutter estate plan will often not suffice.
Don't leave your estate planning until it is too late. Give your family the gift of having your affairs in order.
Mediation / Collaborative Divorces
Mona Jodoin's most recent training has been targeted towards dispute resolution and mediation training. Mona has begun to apply this training to assist family clients and business clients in attempting to achieve amicable settlements that enable the parties to arrive at fair and equitable resolutions to their disputes with minimal, if any, court involvement.
Although this form of dispute resolution is not for everyone, it is strongly encouraged where the parties are fair, reasonable, and will be required to interact for the foreseeable future after their dispute is resolved.
