I believe:
-That educating families is the best way to support children.
-That giving parents and caregivers the ability to provide more ways to nurture their child will result in more overall success than just "leaving it to the professionals".
-That a healthy family means a healthy child, and providing support to allow a family to recharge is crucial for family success.
-That in today's hectic lifestyle it is important to remind families how to connect and bond with each other.
-That children are our worlds greatest asset, and providing for the family means providing for the child.
~Infant & pediatric massage teaches you skills that you can use with your child for a lifetime! With adaptations for varying physical or sensory needs, it can be used safely with all children. Research supports that children who receive massage may benefit from relief of symptoms of colic, have better or improved feeding techniques, better bonding and connection, cognitive development, improved sleep patterns and more! It is also a fact that caregivers under less stress are able to provide a healthier home environment. Infant & baby massage helps not only your child, but everyone in your home!
~I have experience in all aspects of personalized respite care such as toileting, lifts, dispensing medications, hygiene, feeding and transport. I have experience with several types of mechanical equipment such as chairs, beds, etc, and am always willing to learn. I have education and experience with children of varying abilities and diagnosis such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy, cancer, ADD/ADHD, FASD, Down syndrome, and behavioral difficulties to name a few, and I continue to educate myself.
~I provide child developmental programming to children who may need further support in different areas of development such as speech & language, behavior, cognitive, physical, sensory, toileting, sequencing, following routine or transitions.
Nurturing Families works with children of all ages and abilities and their multidisciplinary team if applicable (such as teachers, PT, OT, SLP, caregivers) to achieve goals in the home and community. I also provide support and advocacy through research, references and providing connections. I continue to educate myself in all areas of child development, and am trained in PECS I, Boardmaker, and other communication supports, and have attended several workshops and training in sensory development, behavioral support, varying special needs, and nurturing touch.
