What Is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is "talk therapy, " not use of medication, as a means to address psychological distress. There are a wide variety of treatments a therapist may use depending on their training and philosophy, however developing a positive therapeutic relationship with the client is an essential component of effective psychotherapy.
What Are The Benefits of Psychotherapy?
The benefits are as varied as the individuals who engage in psychotherapy. My goal is to increase the subjective quality of one's life by using evidence-based approaches to reduce symptoms, increase capacity to regulate disruptive emotions and modify maladaptive behaviours and thinking patterns.
Psychotherapy can help with pain management by minimizing distress and finding healthy ways to cope. This article provides more information on psychotherapy and pain management.
What Can I Expect In A Session?
Sessions last 50 minutes. I follow a client-centred approach which means you will be involved in your treatment planning. You will have the opportunity to explore your concerns in a compassionate, non-judgmental environment and, you will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills to use in your everyday life.
