Description
Physio-Pilates is a comprehensive re-balancing of the neuro-muscular patterns that cause many injuries and pain conditions.
Physio-Pilates is a unique fusion of the science of physiotherapy using the Pilates equipment and exercises. Key concepts include stabilizing the lower and middle back so that the arms and legs can develop strength. Pilates strengthen the deep core muscles around a joint and also the larger muscles we need for power.
Damian works with a diverse range of injuries and conditions:
• Post surgical
• Rotator cuff and shoulder
• Painful knee
• Lower back and neck problems
• Carpal tunnel and sciatica
• Posture and alignment
Pilates is the ideal method for rehabilitation because the specialized equipment allows the practitioner to target specific areas of the spine and joints. Each joint has many muscles that act directly or indirectly upon it and Pilates works to address all of these different functions. This targeting can allow the most painful joint to regain mobility and progress to the later dynamic stages of sports rehabilitation.
Physio-Pilates combines the clinical focus of physiotherapy with the vast exercise modifications of the Pilates exercises.
After spending over 10 years working as a physiotherapist providing conventional treatments, Damian has seen that patients do better with individual regular sessions on the equipment.
‘We keep working on the fine detail until the change happens in the body. Then we transition patients into their regular exercise regime. That’s always the goal’.
The length of a Physio-Pilates session is one hour or 45 mins and involves the combination of hands-on joint and muscle treatments with rehabilitative Pilates. As always, home exercise is a must, with Physio-Pilates creating the muscle patterns so that the home exercises are more effective.
After your physiotherapy assessment, Damian will advise you what is the best option for your injury or condition. Patients with very acute, painful conditions will need more of a regular physiotherapy treatment and then transition to the rehabilitation stage as their pain settles.
Please contact me if you have any questions about your injury or condition.
